Feet and Falls – exploring the link between foot health and falls risk in older adults

26 April 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

FREE

Older adults are at a higher risk of foot related health problems that increase their risk of falling. Foot health can affect an older adults’ posture, stability, balance, and walking pattern, influencing the risk of falls. A diagnosis of diabetes is a big risk factor to foot health, with recent studies also linking peripheral neuropathy and falls. Join Injury Matters, in partnership with Podiatry WA, in an online webinar training as we explore key risk factors to foot health and falls; we will hear from Christine Morton from Diabetes WA on the risk of diabetes and falls in older adults, and Deb Schoen on peripheral neuropathy and falls in older adults.

This training aims to:

  • Increase knowledge of the link between foot health and falls prevention
  • Increase awareness of diabetes as a risk factor for foot health and symptoms to look out for in older adults
  • Increase skills in identifying peripheral neuropathy as a risk factor for falls in older adults and strategies to overcome them
  • Increase awareness of appropriate resources to support foot health in older adults

This webinar is suitable for early/mid career podiatrists, general practitioners, allied health nurses and aged care nurses/workers.
