Scooter-related Injuries Webinar
3 June 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Free
Transport injuries are a leading cause of hospitalisations and fatalities in Western Australia. The variety in our transport routes, demographics and preference for physical activity results in the use of differing transportation devices.
Join Injury Matters and the Australasian Injury Prevention Network for the ‘Scooter Safety Webinar’. This webinar will focus on some of these high-risk transportation devices by exploring the incidence of injury due to e-scooter and mobility scooter use. Special guests and experts in the space, Professor Joan Ozanne-Smith and Professor Kristen Vallmuur will join us to share their expertise.
Professor Joan Ozanne-Smith heads the Injury Prevention Research Unit at Monash University’s Department of Forensic Medicine. Joan has worked to reduce the incidence of mobility scooter-related injuries, with special interest in policy to improve mobility scooter safety.
Professor Kirsten Vallmuur is the Chair of Trauma Surveillance and Data Analytics in the School of Public Health and Social Work at the Queensland University of Technology. Kirsten has conducted extensive research into the safety of e-scooters as they emerge as a common means of transportation.
This webinar will provide participants with knowledge of:
- The incidence of injury due to e-scooters.
- The incidence of injury due to mobility scooters.
- The key risk factors associated with using scooters.
- Key prevention initiatives required to reduce the incidence of injury among scooter users.
This webinar is delivered by Injury Matters via the Know Injury program. Know Injury, funded through the WA Department of Health, is a state-wide program aimed at preventing injury in WA.
