How can Injury Matters support Local Governments?

The built environment where people live, work and play, serves a critical role in shaping our health and reducing our risk of injury. Local Governments are responsible for planning an environment tailored to the community needs and implementing strategies that protect and promote health. Planning documents such as Public Health Plans provide a framework that establishes health and wellbeing needs and priorities along with strategies to reduce risk and promote safety.

How can Injury Matters help?

We have developed a GUIDE TO PROMOTING SAFETY AND PREVENT INJURY FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT which can help you get started by suggesting objectives, strategies and resources to reduce injury and promote safety for injury topics including falls, transport, intentional self-harm, violence, poisonings, burns and drowning. Injury Matters can also provide current injury data specific to your Local Government area in infographic format for easy translation. This data can provide insight into relevant prevention strategies, and provide a rationale for preparedness, response and recovery programs needed. Our team members are available to participate in stakeholder and community consultations and can also provide feedback during the development of your planning documents.

Injury Matters can provide FREE injury prevention resources, recovery support resources, community fall prevention education and access to small grants of up to $5,000 to conduct falls prevention initiatives in your area.
