Injury can result from unintentional and intentional actions and is the leading underlying cause of death in Western Australia for people ages 1-44 years.

From 2017 to 2021, there were 6,963 deaths and 367,411 hospitalisations due to injury, costing approximately $3,251,774,140 and resulting in 1,349,084 bed days. As professionals working in the injury prevention and safety promotion space, staying informed about the latest data and strategies is essential.

Injury Matters has recently updated our Know Injury regional fact sheets to provide valuable insights into injury trends and prevention strategies for regional Western Australia.

The rate of injury hospitalisation in WA increases with remoteness, as regional Western Australia experiences unique injury risks that require tailored prevention strategies.

Between 2017 to 2021 in the Goldfields region there were 198 fatalities due to injury and 7,993 hospitalisations from 2018 to 2022.

Between 2017 to 2021 in the Midwest region there were 235 fatalities due to injury and 10,811 hospitalisations from 2018 to 2022.

Between 2017 to 2021 in the Pilbara region there were 133 fatalities due to injury and 7,825 hospitalisations from 2018 to 2022.

Between 2017 to 2021 in the South West region there were 583 fatalities due to injury and 28,458 hospitalisations from 2018 to 2022.

Between 2017 to 2021 in the Wheatbelt region there were 312 fatalities due to injury and 13,211 hospitalisations from 2018 to 2022

Between 2017 to 2021 in the Kimberley region, there were 132 fatalities due to injury and 11,483 hospitalisations between 2018-2022.

Between 2017 to 2021 in the Great Southern there were 218 fatalities due to injury and 9,682 hospitalisations from 2018 to 2022.
