Safer people and places with Local Government Environment Health Officers

Local Government Environmental Health Officers (EHO) understand that the environment in which people live work and play has a critical role in shaping health and reducing the community’s risk of injury.

In February Environmental Health Australia (WA) hosted the 75th EHA conference in Perth to discuss the roles and responsibilities of EHO in maintaining environments that promote good public health and reduce health risks including injury prevention. Injury Matters had the opportunity to attend the conference and share how our team can assist Local Governments in creating safer people and places.

In case you were unable to attend the conference, outlined below are a number of ways Injury Matters can support WA EHO’s.

Injury Matters can supply current injury data specific for individual Local Government areas, which provides important insights into what required injury prevention strategies, preparedness, response and recovery support programs are needed. Our Injury Matters team is also available to provide free feedback and consultation during the development of public health plans, crime prevention and safety planning and positive aging plans.

Injury Matters free Guide to Promoting Safety and Preventing Injury for Local Governments helps Local Governments get started by suggesting objectives, strategies and resources to reduce injury and promote safety for injury topics, including; falls, transport, intentional self-harm, violence, poisonings, burns and drowning.

Injury Matters also have a variety of free injury prevention and recovery support resources available. Our team can deliver community fall prevention education, workforce development training events and provide access to small grants of up to $5,000 through the Stay On Your Feet® program to conduct falls prevention initiatives in your area.

For more information on our programs, services, resources and training events visit the Injury Matters website or contact Injury Matters Local Government and Health Coordinator – Michelle Lambert, via 08 6166 7688 or [email protected].
