International Youth Day 2024

August 12

Youth Innovation for Sustainability

The  theme for International Youth Day 2024 celebrates the power of youth and digital innovation and looks to discover how young minds are harnessing technology to create sustainable solutions for some of the world’s most pressing challenges.  Our young digital natives are at the forefront of adopting new and innovative technologies to solve sustainable development goals (SDGs).  With a deadline of 2030 to achieve SDGs approaching, our youth remain an essential group to leverage technology to address global challenges.

While young people are at the forefront of tackling global challenges, they themselves face challenges closer to home. Despite their digital prowess, our young West Australians are disproportionately affected by alcohol-related injuries and violence.

Australian Secondary Student’s Alcohol and Drug Survey

Key findings from the 2022/2023 Australian Secondary Student’s Alcohol and Drug survey showed that a significant number of high school students engage in risky drinking leading to negative outcomes. Read the Know Injury analysis of the survey with key insights, and learn how alcohol impacts young people’s health and safety.

Youth Support Programs

There are a range of organisation in WA that deliver programs and services aiming to reduce the incidence of injury among youth such as

Youth Injury Toolkit

Injury Matters have a Youth Injury Toolkit which provides information such as:

  • The importance of youth injury prevention: Learn the impact injuries have on young lives.
  • Why are youth at risk: Identify factors that increase the chance of youth injury.
  • Evidence- based prevention strategies: Discover practical steps to keep our young people safe and what role you can play in preventing youth injury.

We strive to be culturally sensitive as we represent the Western Australian community in our imagery.
