Learn how to reduce injury among WA’s priority populations

There is no questioning that the collective burden that injury places on the health care system through disability, premature death and trauma makes injury a serious public health issue. In addition to this overarching burden, some members of the WA community experience an even higher incidence of injury including regional residents and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The rate of injury hospitalisation in WA increased with remoteness.
Indigenous people are hospitalised due to injury at twice the rate of non-indigenous people in WA.

Identifying high-risk population groups is the first step in reducing the impact of injury within high-risk communities.

Within the Know Injury pages of our website you will find information and reports outlining the incidence of injury within priority population groups and what risk factors are contributing to this heightened risk.

Once you have raised your knowledge of the incidence of injury among WA’s priority population groups – visit the #learn pages to keep stepping through the Public Health Approach to Injury Prevention and identifying how you can reduce the risk of injury within your community.

We strive to be culturally sensitive as we represent the Western Australian community in our imagery.
