Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Awards and Summit
On 11 May 2023, Injury Matters are bringing together people and organisations that matter in Western Australia for the Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Awards and Summit at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The Awards breakfast event will spotlight important projects and organisations working to improve injury outcomes and prevention in WA. Immediately following, the day-long Summit is an opportunity to connect and learn from your peers also working to prevent injury in WA.
Expect Keynote presentations from experts Denise Sullivan, Director of Chronic Disease Prevention at the Department of Health, Lucy Saunders, Director and Founder of Healthy Streets, and Professor Tanya Chikritzhs, lead of the Alcohol Policy Research team at the National Drug Research Institute.
Have your work recognised by nominating your project or organisation for an Award, and register to take part in the Summit below.

Improve Your Health falls prevention campaign
The Stay On Your Feet® Improve Your Health campaign toolkit is now available for download!
Get involved in the Improve Your Health campaign from 1st March to 31st May 2023. The Improve Your Health campaign aims to educate older adults, and health and community workers, on the importance of an individual’s diet, medication intake, and cognitive ability which can influence their falls risk.
To support health and community workers engage in the Stay On Your Feet® Improve Your Health campaign, Injury Matters has released a campaign toolkit which provides ready to use social media posts and images, eSignatures, resources, an upcoming training and events calendar, and a facilitator guide to host your own event.

National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week (15 to 21 May 2023) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers and celebrates the significant contribution of Australia’s almost six million volunteers.
Volunteering WA is offering volunteer involving organisations across WA the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to $1,000 to organise an event or activity to recognise and thank volunteers during National Volunteer Week.
Awards are also open to pay tribute to those volunteers who inspire and promote the spirit of volunteerism through their exemplary endeavours. If you have an injury prevention champion volunteering with you, nominate them today.
Australian College of Road Safety Local Government Network
The Local Government Network allows ACRS members who work within or with local government to connect, collaborate and share experiences in an aim to achieve better road safety outcomes for our local communities.

National Reconciliation Week 2023
Running from 27 May to 3 June, National Reconciliation Week will be full of events for you to focus on your reconciliation commitment.

National Road Safety Action Plan 2023–25
The first National Road Safety Action Plan was recently released. The Plan details the national actions that Australian, state and territory governments will undertake over the next three years to support implementation of the National Road Safety Strategy 2021–30.

WA Jobs, Education and Training survey
Community Skills WA is currently undertaking the WA Jobs, Education and Training survey on behalf of the Department of Training and Workforce Development.
To help advocate for and develop strategies to support workforce development across the Community Services, Health and Education sectors in WA, complete the relevant survey in the below list. Surveys close 5pm, Tuesday 21 February 2023.

Federal funding to support stronger communities
Round 8 of the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP) is now open, with funding of between $2,500 and $20,000 available for not-for-profit community organisations and local governments to fund small capital projects that deliver social benefits and boost local community participation.
Applications close on 26 April 2023, so find out if your injury prevention work is eligible today.

Sexual Offences consultation open
The Law Reform Commission is seeking public submissions as part of a review that is considering the need for reforms to reflect changes in community expectations about sexual offending.
The review is open for submissions in response to the first volume of a Discussion Paper and a Background Paper. Submissions close on Friday 17 March 2023.

WA Rural Health Conference 2023
The WA Rural Health Conference 2023 is taking place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 March at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The conference will be an opportunity to connect with health professionals from a variety of disciplines who all play a part in delivering vital healthcare services across rural WA.

2023 Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Conference
Stopping Family Violence and The Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing recently announced their 2023 Conference, The Journey to Ending Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence.
Held on the 12th and 13th of September this conference will explore the relationships across primary prevention, early intervention, response, and recovery, and how each plays an important role in ending family, domestic, and sexual violence.
