The community of Northam and surrounds will benefit from a new Head to Health site expected to open in June. Northam Head to Health will offer immediate free advice, support and, if needed, assessment and treatment for people with stress, anxiety and other mental health issues.
Framework to guide primary prevention of violence against women
Preventing Violence Together has released a new resource “Foundations for Change” to guide the primary prevention of violence against women in WA.
This framework will support the development of a strong primary prevention workforce and guide organisations in their efforts to build safer and more equitable spaces. A resource directory has also been developed to accompany the framework.
Australian Institute of Health and Welfare: Injuries affecting men in Australia: a closer look
In 2021–2022, over 238,000 injury hospitalisations were recorded for adult males in Australia. This report examines emergency department presentations, hospitalisations and deaths due to injury for adult males in 2021–22, as well as trends over a 10-year period.
WA Bicycle Network Grants Program
The next round of WA Bicycle Network Grants Program will open in July to provide funding to local governments to deliver active transport infrastructure to support people to walk, wheel and ride as part of their everyday journeys.

New regulations announced for Nitrous Oxide
New regulations will be implemented in the second half of 2024 to limit access to nitrous oxide to help reduce the health harms associated with nitrous oxide when used for the purpose of intoxication.
The Mental Health Commission have published information and resources to increase the knowledge and awareness of the harms associated with nitrous oxide.
Toddler Drowning Prevention eLearning
Royal Life Saving has recently released a new elearning module on toddler drowning prevention. This is targeted towards child and community health professionals and anyone else working with parents of young children. The module covers toddler drowning risks, locations, prevention strategies and case studies.

The Centre for Women’s Safety is now accepting abstracts for its WA Women’s Health Conference on September 4 2024.

Falls from trucks can result in fatal or serious trauma, such as fractures or abdominal hernias. Safe Work Australia reported in 2013 that 12% of all falls from heights in the workplace are from trucks, semi-trailers, and lorries. A main cause of falling from heights is wrong footing, unsafe footwear, and fatigue.
Toolbox Talks are used to communicate information and knowledge and/or discuss work health and safety within a workplace. They are an ideal broad-based intervention strategy that can highlight issues associated with work-driving safety.
Australian Institute of Health and Welfare: Climate change and environmental health indicators: reporting framework
The AIHW released its latest update on Climate change and environmental health indicators: reporting framework, which was developed to meet identified gaps in both the National Preventive Health Strategy and the National Health and Climate Strategy.
The report describes a framework and 30 indicators for measuring and monitoring how climate change and the environment (both natural and built) impact on the Australian population’s health.

The Health Promotion Directory (HPD) is an interactive dashboard that provides organisations with an interest in promoting health and wellbeing, and the wider community with information about freely accessible programs in their area or in settings of interest.
Lotterywest and Healthway Impact Café sessions
Over the coming months Impact Café sessions will be running across Western Australia to help you make more of an impact when developing your next initiative or grant application. The sessions offer tips to help with future grant applications, including designing outcomes, evidencing impact and effective acquittal and evaluation strategies.
Sessions will run in Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Fremantle.

Homelessness Week 2024: Homelessness Action Now
Homelessness Week is a national annual event occurring the first week of August. In 2024 the theme is Homelessness Action Now.
Homelessness Australia hosts Homelessness Week annually to raise awareness of the impact of homelessness, and the solutions needed to end homelessness.
During the week homelessness services and community groups educate the community and advocate for change via national and local community events, media and social media activities.
