Injury Matters launches the Improve Your Health campaign
Injury Matters launched the three-month Stay On Your Feet® Improve Your Health campaign across Western Australia on 1st March. The Improve Your Health campaign encourages older adults to check their medicines, keep a healthy mind, and fuel their bodies with simple changes to prevent falls and support healthy ageing.
2023 Injury Prevention Summit
On 11 May 2023, Injury Matters are bringing together people and organisations that matter in Western Australia for the Injury Prevention Summit at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Summit is an opportunity to connect and learn from your peers also working to prevent injury in WA.
Expect Keynote presentations from experts Denise Sullivan, Director of Chronic Disease Prevention at the Department of Health, Lucy Saunders, Director and Founder of Healthy Streets, and Professor Tanya Chikritzhs, lead of the Alcohol Policy Research team at the National Drug Research Institute.
FREE Local Government Youth Engagement Forum
The Local Government Community Safety Network are hosting a free Local Government Youth Engagement Forum on Wednesday 29 March from 9:30-1:00pm at the City of Melville and online.
The event will showcase examples of stakeholders working together to create engaging programs, building strategic partnerships, and successfully diverting young people from crime and anti-social behaviour.
Australasian Road Safety Conference 2023
With the theme of ‘Safe Travel for All’, the 2023 Australasian Road Safety Conference will reinforce the common goal of maximising safety on our roads for all users.
Running from 19-21 September 2023, in Cairns and online, the conference will bring together the diverse Australasian Road Safety sector.
Abstracts are now open and will close on 31 March.
The International Falls Conference is coming to Perth!
The 10th Biennial Australia and New Zealand Falls Prevention Conference (ANZFP) will for the first time be run as a joint conference with the World Congress on Falls and Postural Stability at the Perth Convention Centre, from the 26-28 November 2023.
The conference will showcase the latest research outcomes, program implementation, training, and policy and planning innovations in falls prevention in Australia, New Zealand and internationally.
Call for abstracts are currently open and close on Friday 21st April.

2018 WA Burden of Disease Report
Building off the original dataset outlined in the Burden of Injury resource, the WA Department of Health has recently released ‘Burden of Disease in Western Australia 2018’. This Report highlights the burden that injury has on the WA community, including that the health burden due to injury increased by 9.6% from 2011 to 2018.
Access the Report today to learn about the identified priority demographic groups, topics and risk factors for injury.
Planning for Partnerships Framework
The Planning for Partnerships Framework, created by WACOSS with support from the Department of Health, provides clear guidance on how to build the most robust, effective cross-sector partnerships and collaborations.
The Framework is designed to help organisations understand, identify and select the most appropriate forms of collaboration, providing a series of tools that support organisations through each step of partnership development, management and measurement.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Regional Grants
The WEAAD Regional Grants Program, administered by COTA WA, provides grants of up to $3,000 for regional local governments and registered not-for-profits to hold WEAAD events and activities during the week of WEAAD (11-17 June 2023) to raise awareness of elder abuse in regional areas.
Applications close Tuesday 28th March at 4pm.
Federal funding to support stronger communities
Round 8 of the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP) is now open, with funding of between $2,500 and $20,000 available for not-for-profit community organisations and local governments to fund small capital projects that deliver social benefits and boost local community participation.
Applications close on 26 April 2023, so find out if your injury prevention work is eligible today.
New National Drowning Report
Every year, Royal Life Saving produces a National Drowning Report that examines the factors that contribute to drowning deaths in Australia. The latest release highlights that 39 drowning deaths occurred in WA in 2021/22, with 92% of all deaths being males.
New national strategy for safe and healthy work
The Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023-2033 sets a national vision of safe and healthy work for all and provides a platform for delivering key work health and safety improvements. It outlines targets to measure progress over the next 10 years, including a reduction in worker fatalities caused by traumatic injuries by 30%.
Masterclass: The Climate Crisis and Health
The climate crisis impacts health on the individual, community and population levels in a myriad of ways. During this session on April 4, experts in climate change will explore the effects of climate change on all facets of health and wellbeing in this masterclass, including health risks experienced by communities who are the most vulnerable, including women, low-SES communities, migrants and older populations.
Upcoming Stopping Family Violence training
Applying a Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Lens:
Stopping Family Violence has designed this training to support a range of roles and workplaces in recognising and safely responding to family domestic and sexual violence (FDSV). The training will help everyone to understand and/or provide support when needed and help to unpack what impact they can have through their current role in reducing and responding to the current high rates of FDSV.
Tuesday 4th April 2023, The Hub Bentley, $297 per person.
Best Practice in Frontline & Intersecting Roles:
This training builds on the foundational knowledge delivered in the ‘Applying a Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Lens’ session. It is ideal for both frontline practitioners, where the client base is specifically people experiencing or using FDSV, and intersecting practitioners, those working in fields where it is very common that the client’s presenting concern will intersect with experiences or use of FDSV.
