Stay On Your Feet® Improve Your Health Grants open!

Applications are now open for Improve Your Health grants of up to $5,000 (plus GST) for the delivery of community-based falls prevention projects in Western Australia throughout September-November 2024. Improve Your Health looks at simple changes which can improve a person’s health and wellbeing, focusing on nutrition, cognition, and medication management.

Applications for Improve Your Health grants close at 5 pm Friday, 31 May 2024.

Heart Beat Club: Learn to Save Little Lives

A lifesaving initiative from Royal Life Saving and Kids Alive, Heart Beat Club is an online course in resuscitation and basic first aid for parents and carers of young children – and is being offered for free in the month of May.

Kidsafe WA are launching a new e-learning tool for primary school students to facilitate lessons on safety and injury prevention, with four interactive modules on home, road, play and farm safety.

Public Health Act Announcement

The new approach to Stage 5 of the Public Health Act 2006 has been announced. From 4 June 2024 stage 5 will be implemented in several phases. Local Governments will be required to prepare local public health plans within 24 months.

Anyone Can Save a Life campaign

St John WA and the Road Safety Commission have partnered to highlight the importance of post-crash care in reducing the impact of road crashes. The Anyone Can Save a Life Campaign highlights how anyone can save a life if they understand simple first aid actions. Basic first aid is vital in the first few minutes after a crash and has the potential to prevent 15% of WA road fatalities.

Communicating on climate change and health: Toolkit for health professionals

The World Health Organisation has released a toolkit to support health professionals when communicating on climate change. It aims to help health professionals or health workers understand and communicate about the health impacts of climate change, and how climate action delivers important health benefits.

Multicultural health services directory

The Multicultural health services directory (MHSD) is a compilation of programs and services offered by the Western Australian health system and the community services sector that directly address or are inclusive of health needs of Western Australians of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds.

The Directory is primarily for staff members from the WA health system and other agencies to use as a reference when providing support to people of CaLD backgrounds.
