The Move Your Body campaign encourages older adults to build their balance and strengthen their legs through fun, regular exercises to prevent falls and support healthy ageing.

2022 WA Falls Report 

Injury Matters is proud to release the 2022 WA Falls Report.  

The report’s findings indicate that a Western Australian dies every 25 hours, is admitted to hospital every 17 minutes and presents to an emergency department every 13 minutes due to a falls-related injury.

Have your say on road safety in WA! 

The WA Road Safety Commission currently has surveys open regarding eRideables & motorcycle lane filtering legislation reviews. Complete the online surveys by Friday 30 September 2022 to help increase road safety in WA. 


New FASD resources 

The National Organisation for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (NOFASD Australia) and FARE have launched new resources for people working in the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) sector.

These resources are part of the Every Moment Matters campaign and support women to become alcohol-free before and during pregnancy, and assist AOD workers to talk about alcohol use and pregnancy.

2022 WALGA Aboriginal Forum 

The annual WALGA Aboriginal Engagement and Reconciliation Forum, themed Kanan - Dhabagarn - Wabirriny (Truth – Justice – Healing) is being held on October 5.

This Forum provides a fantastic opportunity to discuss leading initiatives between Local Governments and their Aboriginal communities that support reconciliation and a better-shared future for all. 


Family and Domestic Violence Community Grant Applications Open 

WA Government grants are currently open for eligible organisations to deliver community primary prevention programs that address the gendered drivers of violence and aim to shift attitudes and culture that allow violence to occur. Applications close on 30 September 2022.

Our Watch – new violence prevention resource 

Building off Our Watch’s Men in focus evidence review, the new Men in focus practice guide: Addressing masculinities and working with men in the prevention of men’s violence against women, offers practical strategies on engaging with men and boys on masculinities, including focusing on building empathy and motivation and fostering self-awareness.

This is an important new resource and will help ensure that everyone understands and plays their part in changing our society to make it safer and more equal.

Playground Maintenance for Schools Workshop 
Date: Monday 19th September, 10am – 2pm. 
Location: Kidsafe WA Office, West Leederville 

This one-day workshop is aimed at school maintenance and gardening staff, who are often responsible for the maintenance of school playgrounds. This workshop covers basic knowledge of the Australian Standards requirements and the use of a maintenance checklist.

Shading Playspaces with Cancer Council WA 
Date: Tuesday 20th September, 10am – 11am. 
Location: Online (Zoom) 

Join Kidsafe WA and Cancer Council WA in a free online seminar discussing the importance of shade in playspaces, conducting a shade audit, how to start a shade project and the SunSmart Shade Competition for schools. Suitable for schools, childcare centres, local governments, and any other playground providers. 

Naturally Kids Play Workshop 
Date: Wednesday 18th October, 6.30pm – 7.30pm. 
Location: Kidsafe WA Office, West Leederville 

This one-hour workshop looks at the benefits of natural play, how to make playspaces inclusive and how they relate to the Australian Standards for Playgrounds. We will show you examples to inspire you to create a safe, stimulating, and cost-effective outdoor environment for children.

AIPN Indigenous data sovereignty webinar 

Join the AIPN and expert presenters on Tuesday 20th September to learn about Indigenous data sovereignty. This global movement is concerned with the right of Indigenous peoples to govern the creation, collection, ownership and application of their data.
