Frailty and Falls Prevention Webinar

March 2, 2021

Join Injury Matters for the “Frailty and Falls Prevention webinar”. A presentation will be provided by Tony Petta, Senior Physiotherapist Falls Clinic, Department of Health.

Description

Frailty is recognised as a risk factor for falls. Frailty involves the concepts associated with the deterioration of the body related to the ageing process. It involves decreased physical performance, including balance, gait and mobility problems, all of which predispose older adults to falling.

Falls can have a negative psychological impact on older adults including fear of falling, loss of confidence, and anxiety which may lead to loss of independence. Due to the negative impact of falling it is important for practitioners working with older adults to recognise frailty as a risk factor for falls, assess and prescribe necessary interventions.
