Older adults are getting active for the Move Your Body campaign

It’s the final month of the Stay On Your Feet® Move Your Body campaign and the team at Injury Matters have certainly been busy. The Move Your Body campaign encourages you to Strengthen Your Legs and Build Your Balance to help you stay active, independent, and prevent falls. If you’re wondering how, we’ve got plenty on offer for you!

Injury Matters launched the Move Your Body campaign in September with the Move Your Body Safe-Tea Fair in partnership with the City of Swan. The fun-filled day included strength and balance assessments alongside a range of health services and stalls for older adults to engage with. Physiotherapist, Maryann Fabling, and Emeritus Professor, Bob Ziegler, spoke on the importance of building your balance and strengthening your legs to prevent falls and active ageing. Attendees were also joined by Teresa Stokes for a Tai Chi session and the day was, of course, finished with afternoon tea and some lucky door prize winners!

“I am so glad I came today, I didn’t know what to expect but it was fabulous. I had a strength and balance assessment and I have somethings to work on, but I’m so glad I did it now, thank you.”  Move Your Body Safe-Tea Fair attendee

Injury Matters would also like to express a big thank you to the Council on the Ageing, Midlas, Healing Insights, Black Swan Health, Seniors Recreation Council, Swan Active, Karingal Green Health and Wellness Centre, Occupational Therapy Services Group and WA Seniors Card for attending the event.

Move Your Body Safe-Tea Fair

Injury Matters hit the country road for the next Move Your Body event at the Albany Public Library, in partnership with the City of Albany. This event welcomed community members for a Tai Chi session, afternoon tea and a Stay On Your Feet® Move Your Body presentation and demonstration of exercises.

“The Tai Chi was wonderful, I have limited mobility so having the option to do it in the chair was perfect for me, I would love to try it again.” Albany Move Your Body event attendee
